You wanna know why change is so hard?

You want to know why change is so hard?

‘’Cows run away from the storm while the buffalo charge toward it - and gets through it quicker.’’

-Rory Vaden

This quote is founded on the laws of nature.

What do cows, buffalo & humans(us) got in common?

Cows, just like buffalo, and just like humans(us), have spent millions of years developing themselves by the laws of nature obediently following Evolution.

We are who we are because of 2 things.

  1. The surroundings we're born in

  2. Our Limiting physical abilities

Bonus: our Limiting mental abilities

(This one’s a bonus because cows and buffalo ain’t got much mental abilities compared to humans)

Cows are the way they are

They run away when they sense a storm coming. They don’t want the discomfort of rain+wind which soaks them to the bone.

The buffalo are the way they are

They huddle together and run into the storm. They don’t want to face the discomfort of being soaked to the bone plus being tired from outrunning the inevitable.

you see — weak people are cows.

that’s actually from where the word coward came from… maybe… if my guess is right.

And Buffalo — they’re courageous people

and it’s also where the term ‘’buff’’ for jacked gym bro’s came from… but again, i’m just guessing (but this one sounds more believable)

But We’re HUMAN!

We’re nature’s favorite(and not) because of our unique ability to be conscious, self aware and most importantly, to adapt to anything.

You could be born in any end of the world, and if you come out a healthy child, then you have the opportunity to live in whatever way you wish to.

I once sat next to a man who took off his backpack, ate his lunch, packed it all up and all he asked was to help tie his shoe.

Why is that relevant?

The man had no arms!

That just proves how you can adapt to anything.

so now the storm is over and what do we see?

The cows used up all of their energy avoiding the storm. Left drenched, cold and exhausted from trying to outrun it — to outrun the inevitable.

The buffalo get through the storm with energy to spare. By charging towards the storm, the total time spent in suffering was reduced by the willingness to accept what’s coming and going towards it.

And how about the human?

Some ran with the cows

Some ran with the buffalo

Some just stayed put

And you know why?

Because they can. Every human is brought up their own way. And not just how they were raised, but also what fell into their DNA along the way.

Fact is:

We are wired to seek comfort, because in ancient times seeking comfort meant survival:

  • hunting and gathering for food (focused work)

  • Running from danger (daily exercise)

  • Socialising with the tribe (to not get excluded)

Life was all about survival, and to survive, you had to live through adversity.

Seeking comfort meant facing discomfort.

But the world has changed since we ran from storms as humans, now they’re metaphorical storms of expected and unexpected change.

We are born into a world where basic survival isn't an issue anymore.

The world we’ve built isn’t one where our ancient minds can thrive.

Seeking immediate comfort used to be what’s good for us. It used to cover all of our basic human needs for everything — both physical & mental.

Today, Seeking immediate comfort results in you being hypnotized by an endless stream of never ending tv-shows, movies, podcasts, books, videos, music… you name it.

So No wonder it’s hard to stay happy and content with everything in our lives.

We are born into the age in which to be happy, means to go against natures.

Seeking comfort is not the game for survival anymore.

Seeking discomfort is.

But there’s a silver lining —WE’RE HUMAN!

We can adapt to anything.

So choose how you’re gonna live your life.

Don’t just run with herds mindlessly.

Change — but for the better.

‘’The faster you change, the faster you’ll discover a life of impact. It is that simple.’’

-Dr. Ed Brenegar
